International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) has awarded the IFAD Gender Award 2017 to Char Development and Settlement Project (CDSP), Phase-IV of Bangladesh which is being implemented in the south-eastern coastal belts. The award has been handed over to Mr. Bazlul Karim, Deputy Team Leader of CDSP-IV by Mr. Nigel Brett, Officer-in-Charge, IFAD Asis and Pacific region in a celebration held at IFAD Head Quarter, Roam, Italy. The IFAD Gender Award is the recognition for the outstanding results and impacts by IFAD supported CDSP-IV project that is empowering world women and moving towards the goal of gender equality. Ceremonial speech delivered by IFAD Director highlighted the following key points as success indicators:
Thanks to the work of the project over ten thousand families have land titles to the male and women by part. Crucially from the perspectives of gender equality land titles are registered in the names of wife and her husband with ownership share and wife’s names comes to the first. Which means if she is widowed, she is divorced or she is abandoned, the land entirely to her. Land titles are strengthening her family and giving them legal wall in many decisions. Rates of child marriage has fallen with 93 early marriages are prevented between 2012 to 2016. Violence against women is also less common. The average distance to safe water source has been cut from 382 meter to 50 meter and this is so important. Because it is safe the women and girls in regards to time and energy. They can use in the school and market in their community.
